Legislative Update

Dr. Ron Paul will be attending the Straw Poll vote at the Ft. Worth Convention Center this Saturday. He would appreciate having several Riders to lead his trip into the Convention Center the way the Leathernecks M/C did for him in Austin. It will only be about a 6-7 block ride but will definitely be seen on National and local Television stations. There will be a police escort.

Please make this short ride if at all possible. Put us in the national spotlight. Give me a call if you can get a few riders out there.

Here is the schedule:
Ron will be exiting the Renaissance Worthington Hotel at 2nd and Main at 8:30 -- ready to walk up Main Street -- I will have him at the lobby door at that time.

Extra police security detail has been ordered. He will walk up Main to 8th, turn right to Houston Street, and left on Houston, crossing 9th Street to the Convention Center brick area on the Houston Street side....

As you already know the state office is hosting the Jimmie Vaughn concert next month. Jimmie Vaughan and The Hoike band from Dallas are both donating their time.
Terri is out seeking Sponsors and has already signed up Cowboys Harley Davidson and the BMW/Triumph Dealership at $500 EACH. She spoke to the owner of Threllkeld Restaurant and he would be happy to host an evfent at his place when we get ready.
Terri and her friend Rita will go back out on Wednesday and take the necessary pictures and Peter at the BMW shop will sign up as a supporter member at some level when they stop by there. They will also be calling on other businesses to take up the slack.

Terri and I have decided that the state office will also resurrect the Texas Tea Party for the Fourth of July weekend next year at the former Eagles Landing Park just outside Abilene. We have already gotten permission from Silver to use the Park. Possibly we could all use our own pistols for the Run-N-Gun Poker Run out there.
That lets you know our plans so you can plan your events around them. Of course The TOG Chapter will host their Rally on the first weekend of November this year and next year the Texas Independence Day Rally will be the first weekend of March. Both events will be held at the Lost Prarie Cycles Ranch outside Groesbeck.

The Senate Finance Committee has passed a tobacco tax supposedly for child health care. The increase in the Federal tax on a pack of cigarettes will be $0.61. That will be a $1.61 tax increase on cigarettes in two years.
Maybe its time to quit except I will be going to Virginia for the Southern Cross Conference next month and they are really cheap up that way. We brought back several cartons the last time we were up there.

Ticket for Loud Bike DISMISSED!
By Daniel J. Chacon, Rocky Mountain News August 9, 2007 The first and only ticket that police have issued to a motorcyclist under Denver's controversial new noise ordinance was dismissed Wednesday.
The city's decision to drop the case highlights a fundamental flaw - Denver police aren't equipped with the $1,000 noise monitors needed to make the charge stick, said Wade Eldridge, lawyer for the ticketed biker.
"In any case in which it's properly challenged, the city has an impossible burden," said Eldridge.
The reason Assistant City Attorney April Snook cited in her motion to dismiss the case was the city was "unable to prove charge beyond a reasonable doubt."

Bad news for Texas Riders, State Rep. Anna Mowrey has decided to retire from the Legislature. Representative Mowrey has voted for every Bill we have gotten to a committee she served on or to the Floor for a vote. She has repeatedly stated that your chair was the most efficient lobbyist in the capitol. Whe I start to explain I am not a lobbyist she stops me by saying "I know, I know but you can show those lobbyist a thing or two."
Those of you in her district have a tough job to put someone as supportive as her in that position. Get started now.

Our trip to Ft. Worth was successful. We attended a meeting at the Wino Crew M/C’s Clubhouse to speak to riders interested in starting a new chapter of TMRA 2. There was definitely enough interest so it was decided to get the new chapter underway next month. The Wino Crew M/C has a fantastic Clubhouse located at 6005 Tension St. The first meeting will be held there on the third Wednesday beginning next month. Any interested parties are invited to attend.

You may remember Rick Perry Vetoed the Bill spending $154 million for community colleges this year. Realizing the whiplash effect it was having on him he has now offered to replace the money. However his proposals show the same disdain his administration has shown for rules. It will involve shifting money from several sources and cutting funds from others, as well as holding off payments due until the next budget date rolls around. This will bear a lot of watching.

During the hearing Senator Armbrister learned just how hard his job would be for the next 1 ½ years.
When he made the statement that the governor’s door is always open the crowd openly showed their disagreement with his statement by laughing loudly. This brought forth an angry response from the red faced senator.

Ex-Speaker Dennis Hastert in the US Congress has announced he will not be seeking reelection to another term. This will create a frantic rush for both Dems band Repubs to get ready for the race. In the meantime our Presidential Campaigns are looking like our last governor’s race here in Texas.

Bring your ideas for Bylaw changes and Goals and Objectives with you when you come to the meeting on Saturday.
