Issues and Goals

Believe it or not the Advisors do have solid discussions on the Association issues and goals. We discuss how these issues affect the Warriors.
We have, over the past few days, bounced back and forth how the association is perceived by others as to Party affiliation.
One Advisor stated possibly we are not overly represented by Dems. but under represented by Repubs.
I received three requests that this statement by your chair, after much discussion by others on the subject, be put where others may see it.
I have chosen to do so:

Let's face it, neither Party is worth a shit as far as the country or state is concerned. Republicans pander to the wealthy while Dems take our money and pass it to others. Both Parties support gun control, mind control, one world government and total control over your life from cradle to grave.
Regardless of what they say those people elected to office have no plans to change any of that, UNLESS THEY ARE BIKERS OR have lived the biker life style. That Brothers and sisters is where we come in as Warriors.

It is our job not to pick a Party we believe in but rather pick one to change. If we believe in the actions of either Party we have lost already. It is quite evident that officials from either Party have veered away from common sense and servitude. Only we can reset the autopilot on this country. Get out and recruit, educate and work with all those whom you come in contact with. Strengthen the Army and then fight this war to win.

Central Texas Democrat Bikers Association

The Fight Continues

Saturday, May 22, 2004, motorcyclists from the Austin area joined together to help support the efforts of both the Texas Motorcycle Rights Association (TMRA II) and the newly organized Central Texas Democrat Motorcyclists Association (CTDMA). It was held at the Iron Horse Bar and Grill located at the corner of Waters Park Rd and S. Mopac. Through the efforts of TMRA II, CTDMA, Texas Wheels MC, Coyote Moon Dawgs MC, Latin Steel MC, Alliance MC, Brotherhood of Bikers, Hardcore Custom Cycles and Wicked Customs, the day produced approximately 8 new TMRA II members, 2 new CTDMA members, and most importantly, 25 NEW REGISTERED VOTERS.

The event was attended by Williamson County Attorney Candidate Janet Engvall McTigue, Candidate Lee Stewart who is seeking the office of State Representative for District 20 and by Jon Porter who has his eye on the US Congress. All 3 candidates were amazed at the efforts made by the biker community and even commented that they had no idea that bikers were politically involved. They were very receptive to the concerns and desires of bikers in our community and welcomed our support as well as supported our efforts. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Stewart even became members of The Central Texas Democrat Motorcyclists and will even be attending the meetings when able. I call that one step closer to keeping our rights..

For those that are not familiar with TMRA II and CTDMA here is a brief overview.

All of those involved in the TMRA II organization are known as Legislative Warriors. The Texas Motorcycle Rights Association fights bills that are unfair to bikers and any bill that violates the rights guaranteed by the Constitution. Sputnik is the man that makes this happen. He works tirelessly to protect the rights of all riders. He knows how the process works and how to work the process. Through the efforts of the TMRA II HOV lanes have open to Motorcycles. Bikers have received permanent medical exemption for helmet use. Received handicapped license plates for motorcycles, and the list could go on and on..Check with your local TMRA II group and join them for their next meeting. If you are in the Austin or surrounding area, TMRA II meetings of the Austin Minutemen Chapter are held the 1st Tuesday of each month at Vinny's Italian Restaurant located on Barton Springs Rd. in Austin. Meetings begin at 7:30 pm and generally last 1 hour. For more information call Glenn Dial at 512-247-4989. Also, visit the TMRA II website at:
Tmra2.org.

The Central Texas Democrat Motorcyclists Association is a group of individuals that have decided to become involved with the local aspect of politics. The main focus of CTDMA is to help get the vote out, getting people registered to vote and supporting the local candidates in their campaign efforts Meetings are held on the 4th Wednesday of each month at the Iron Horse Bar and Grill. For more information contact Bart Luck (512) 925-3524 or Tonya Williams (512) 257-8151.

Updates from the Chair

The DOH Ride For Liberty was a huge success. The Riders were escorted to DPS Headquarters by Austin PD Motorcycle squad(eight of them.) The officers were cordial and friendly before, during and after the ride. One officer told the group to enjoy the city but to be careful. He advised them that car drivers don't pay attention and that he had been ran over twice.
Guadalupe was shut down to allow for parking beside the building. The Riders were very well behaved as Dan explained to the DPS Officers what had happened and turned in the formal complaints. News coverage was ample and Dan allowed us to address the group of riders concerning what had happened and how they should have handled the requests for searches. We explained TMRA 2 and then cut out for Bucks on the Brazos, outside Glen Rose, to attend the Rally by Mama Blue. We will continue to follow the investigation and report on the results.

Arrived at Bucks Friday evening and was greeted with the finest tent sleeping arrangement ever seen by this old rider. It was a 16'x24' two room tent with wooden floor, electric lights, large fan, full size bed and all amenities normally found in a house. Greg and I shared the facility if you can call a 45 minute nap sharing. During the evening we were asked to come to the Cleburne American Legion to talk to them about TMRA 2 during their meeting Saturday evening at 5:00pm. Left during the field events to keep the appointment. That meeting was very productive for the Association as we picked up members and sold some shirts. The Rally had everything you normally expect rider support. The attendance was not nearly what was expected but those who weren't present missed a fabulous weekend. Been a long time sine Friday evening ended at 4:22am and Saturday evening ended at 5:30am. Saturday evening we witnessed the greatest entertainment I have ever encountered during a Rally. Six nice looking, friendly young ladies treated us to wrestling matches in a ring of pudding. This was in no way a sexually oriented event. These ladies were not muscled weight lifters but their expertise was unbelievable.
As at every opportunity to make merry with your chair a donation was taken to pit him against two of the wrestlers. Whether from excitement or exertion this bout ended with yours truly taking his first ever whipping and grabbing the oxygen.
Saturday night the Band was mesmerizing. I have not gotten so engrossed in a musical performance in well over 25 years. Thanks to all who worked and those who attended the event. The band and the Pudding Girls will most certainly become regulars at our events.

Prior to arriving at Glen Rose, received a call from the Wall Street journal reporter stating her story was finished and was on it's way to the home office in New York. Upon our return to Austin we received another call from "American Bikers." We were informed by them that the video containing interviews with Bandido JW Rock and me had been completed and they were sending us a CD prior to it's release.

And finally a personal thanks to Tonya "Saucey" for all her help transporting me around for the past two weeks. Thanks to John for having accepted the infringement on his life also.

We shall now head to Houston to help Janet with final arrangements fo the DEM Convention. Call the cell phone or email chairman@tmra2.org foir correspondent this week.

Updates

---------------------------------------------------------------

WARNING WARNING
A friend in Corpus called about some rules for inspections on motorcycles that we were unaware of. He was taking classes to become an Inspection Station at his shop.

A tail light must measure at least 15" from center to ground. A bike must have both Front and rear brakes. One rule that he didn't know yet, that to pass a safety inspection the handlebars can be no more than 15" above the seat. I was told of one location that has been shut down for improper inspections.

These are not laws. The law allows the agency to set guidelines and they use a national standard. Seems we have another fish to fry on capitol hill. (our capitol)

---------------------------------------------------------------

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Gov. Jeb Bush signed bills Thursday that ban police from keeping comprehensive lists of law-abiding gun owners and give gun range owners almost total immunity from lead cleanup lawsuits.
The National Rifle Association praised Bush for signing the bills, both of which were pushed hard by the gun-owners' group.

Under the new law, police and government agencies could be fined $5 million if they keep a list of people who own firearms. The measure doesn't apply to lists created as part of a criminal investigation.

The gun range bill arose out of a lawsuit that sought to force a gun range to clean up lead from old ammunition. Environmentalists say if the lead leaches into the groundwater it can be dangerous.

The measure, which Bush signed in a private ceremony, bans such lawsuits, but requires state environment regulators to set up a protocol for how gun ranges should prevent lead contamination. Among the ideas is the use of lead-free ammunition.

If ranges follow the plan, they can't be sued.

The 4th Special Session has ended and just what was accomplished by Rick Perry's $1.7 million dollar expenditure? Well in excess of 150 House Resolutions and nearly 100 Senate Resolutions were passed by both Houses. None of these created any change in government. Two House Concurrent Resolutions and I Senate concurrent Resolution was passed by both Houses. The two HCRs allowed the House to spend two weeks of the session in adjournment while the SCR gave the Senate a week off. (with their $105 per day salary.)
With State Rep John Mabry attending our meeting we added another State Rep to our list of Biker Warriors. The following article from the Statesman gives you just a small idea of what we have watched on the Floor this session. This is partisan politics at it's finest(or worst as the case may be.) One Killer Bee was my Senator. He paid for fighting back by losing $800 during the 4 day Poker games.

House members steamed about speaker's rulings
House Speaker Tom Craddick took a hard shot Wednesday over heavy-handed tactics, from the only other remaining state legislator of the famed Dirty Thirty Ethics minority from 1971.
That group became famous for standing up to then-Speaker Gus Mutscher, D-Brenham, who eventually was indicted and convicted in connection with quick-profit stock deals engineered by Houston developer Frank Sharp.
This week after Craddick upheld efforts to refuse to consider some 200 amendments that Democrats had prepared on the school finance bill, and demonstrated a vague standard about what kinds of vote spreads could justify vote verification, Rep. Paul Moreno, D-El Paso, was fed up.
"Gus Mutscher didn't even come close to doing these things," Moreno said from his wheelchair at the front mike, as part of a personal privilege speech in which a legislator can say just about anything he wants.
Craddick and Moreno had been allies in the fight against Mutscher 33 years ago, when Mutscher and other House officials and state leaders were being investigated by federal and state authorities and Mutscher tried to cut off calls for a House investigation.
Rep. Steve Wolens, D-Dallas, who is retiring after 24 years, said, "In my time here, we have never seen an amendment to cut off debate when they were on amendment number two. It's unheard of, and it's uncalled for."
On Tuesday, Craddick had turned down Wolens' call for verification of a school finance vote that lost by seven votes, saying six votes was the minimum spread.
At another point, he had shut off the back microphone while Rep. Jim Dunnam, D-Waco, was trying to ask a question.
On Wednesday at one point, Craddick said the minimum vote spread was five for verification.
But he also pointed out, correctly, that House rules leave it to the discretion of the speaker when a vote is "close" enough to merit verification.
Rep. Craig Eiland, D-Galveston, was frustrated.
"Is this the way it's going to be from now on?" Eiland asked.
"I am not advised, Mr. Eiland," Craddick replied stonily from the dais.
"Then who is advised?" Eiland responded.
He got no answer.
Later, Rep. John Mabry Jr., D-Waco, asked again for clarification of the maximum vote spread that could justify verification.
"The rule is the rule, Mr. Mabry," Craddick said. "It's up to the chair."
Wolens, who did not seek re-election this year, said some of the rulings and actions were "just incredible.
"Just like when he turned off the back mike when Jim Dunnam was speaking," Wolens said. "Never, in my 24 years here, in (former House Speaker) Pete Laney's 30 years here, in Paul Moreno's 30-plus years here, have we ever seen a mike turned off while a member was speaking. Ever."

Weekend Update

What a great State Meeting weekend that most of you missed. Friday was a lot of fun just talking and visiting with those who came in early. Fine music, food and for some, apparently some fine cold refreshments. All this along with more talking than was good for at least one state chair.
The state meeting and Bash was sponsored by the H.O.T.T. chapter and Jim's Cycle Shop. Jim supplied the location and electricity at no charge to us. Several chapters of Texas Wheels M/C pitched in to run the registration table and take care of security and about anything else they could do to help. A few members of the Brotherhood M/C came out and did the Bike Games following the General Meeting. There were silent Auction items with many coming from Sandy and Henry Duckett. There was a US Flag from Congressman Chet Brooks with a proclamation that it had flown over the US Capitol. There were several bids along with gentle banter on each bid. Jim finally let me have itv and then paid half the bid for me.
The Advisor Meeting was attended by Districts 1, 3, 12, 14, 22, 24, 28, 29 and 31. That's just over 30% of the Senatorial districts covered at this meeting. Everyone gave their reports and then we got down to the Agenda. District 6 arrived after the Advisor meeting was over. We discussed the poor support of most districts to the request for names, addresses and phone numbers to get the seats on the Advisory Committee of the Dem. Party. If any of you reading this are willing to help by adding your name please contact the State office by phone or e-mail. Your information will not be used for anything but this and will not be passed along. There must be 160 Warriors out there who are willing to help.
We discussed our need for a more modern setup for electronic communications. A committee of our whizzes were appointed to modernize our information center. One of the changes will include a state office Email address of chairman@tmra2.org. The Jacobswell site is still down but Terry and I will discuss that issue soon.

At our next meeting in May the General meeting will begin 15 minutes after the Advisor meeting ends.

Quickly: We will be getting an 800 line in the near future. WE will meet with Chief Beckworth of DPS concerning the DAWGS on HAWGS incident.

State Rep John Mabry attended and spoke to the meeting and answered questions. We now have another state Rep member as he found he believed the same issues as us.

Some Warriors have formed a new group named Central Texas Democratic Motorcyclists Association. They are hoping to convince others to form the same type Association in their Senate District.

Brookman was there and he is writing the official meeting report but we put out our new shirts and they sold well. The Shotgun Raffle cleared over $800 and Jan took home a total of roughly $3000. Not bad for the few riders present.

I, Sputnik spent some fun filled moments in jail. Peacemaker with the Chariots of Light M/C shared a passionate message on Sunday morning and then it was off to Ft. Worth for a COC Meeting. Thanks to everyone who made this a successful weekend.

Republican State Convention

We have not received enough verified Republican Delegates to make any type arrangements for the Convention the first weekend of June. Those present at the meeting said they have made their arrangements already.
There will not be a Caucus for the same reason. Your chair will be present to help in any way possible.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Democrat State Convention

The Dingy Blonde from Houston has been fighting the battle to get facilities for the Convention in Houston. Of course she always succeeds. Arrangements for the Democrat State Convention which are finalized are:

We shall camp out at the Houston Central KOA. The owner likes bikers and has made us a good deal. They have spaces for RVs at very reasonable rates. If you are only planning to stay for Friday and Saturday night you can make reservations on line and Saturday night will be half price.
We got special rates for tent campers at $5 per person a night. Thursday thru Saturday night is $15 per person We shall put down our card for the spaces and campers will pay us upon entry to the park. We urge everyone who possibly can to be there Thursday to be certain to attend our Caucus at about 1:00pm Friday. District Caucuses will take place at 3:00pm Friday.
The KOA is 17 miles north of the Convention center on Aldine Westfield off FM 525 from I-45 or US 59. It is between Loop 610 north and Beltway 8. Janet is working on Parking and there will be people on site to cook for convention goers.
To check out the Site click on www.koa.com. Click on KOA Locations, next click on the Texas map and click on #9. You can see pictures and a map on the site. Any questions call the office or send Email.

Updates

Louisiana riders have once again managed to dodge the bullet, for this year at least. At the last minute the Bill was voted down. Three cheers for those Coonass riders for their tenacity and commitment.

*******************************************************************************************************************

Missouri riders of FORR have been waging a tough battle for their right to choose this year. With the session coming to a close in three days, they have cleared the House and the committee in the Senate. The Bill must come to a Senate Floor vote and pass no later than April 13th. They need 18 votes to pass the Bill and have 20 committed Senators for yes votes.

Let's cross our fingers and watch the results of this one.

********************************************************************************************************************

According to the Talon News 4/29/04 Each morning since 1988 the US House has recited the Pledge of Allegiance., alternating from Republican to Democrat legislators to lead it. Congressman McDermott did not say "under God" as he led the Pledge on Tuesday morning. C-Span2 verified that he indeed omitted the words but said not one citizen had called in to complain.
Congressman McDermott said the omission was because the issue is under review by the High Court. The journal for the day failed to show the words were omitted and wrote them into the record.

*********************************************************************************************************************
I know we have all heard about the statement by Tim Buche (president MSF) before a congressional committee that Rider Training only lasts at most 10 months. Several individuals and media have begun to question whether MSF is truly concerned about rider safety or are they headed toward trying to sell motorcycles. This question has come up by the fact that MSF is run by a manufacturers board. The Riders Edge program by Harley is admittedly aimed at selling the Buell.

We are all aware of the ties to MIC(Motorcycle Industry Council) and the Manufacturers. The MIC publishes the statistics on motorcycles by state. These facts do not always match the stats we find in our state records. It is now known that these two groups share the same office and the same president (Tim Buche.) Does this create any concern anyone?

**********************************************************************************************************************

HR 2844 passed in the House, has been read twice in the Senate and placed on the legislative calendar. This bill sets a time frame for special elections to fill vacancies in the House in emergency situations.

Part of Article I, section 2 of the Constitution states "When vacancies happen in the Representation from any State, the Executive Authority thereof shall issue Writs of Election to fill such Vacancies." There is no reason to appoint members of the House, as the "Continuity of Government Commission" wants. The Constitution is clear, does not need to changed, and we sure won't disintegrate if we take a few days and elect new representatives.

Judiciary Committee chairman F. James Sensenbrenner (R-WI) Put it best below, "Let's be clear. Any constitutional amendment denying the right of elected representation would accomplish what no terrorist could, namely striking a fatal blow to what has otherwise always been 'The People's House.'" Let our US Senators know we want our officials to continue to be elected, not appointed. Act quickly and ask them to vote NO on HR 2584. John Cornyn - 202-224-2934 Kay Bailey Hutchison - 202-224-5922

AND IN TEXAS:

Several Texas Riders attended the NCOM Convention in Oklahoma City this weekend. This was without question the most fabulous Rights Convention that has ever been conducted in this country. There were many riders attending for the first time and they certainly got their money's worth, as did we all.

New faces bring new ideas and combined with the old they rejuvenate every aspect of our battle to regain Liberties we have lost to self-serving corporate leaders and the Legislators they have bought and paid for. Your state chair took part in 5 of the seminars.

Of especially great news to Texas Liberty Fighters, Bill Carlton was this years recipient of the prestigious "Ron Roloff Lifetime Achievement Award," Anyone who knows Bill can tell you he was the father of Bikers Rights long before anyone else had taken it seriously. BY taking Sputnik to the 1992 NCOM Convention in Atlantic City, he is directly responsible for the founding of TMRA 2. He and Ruby have given up much for this and other associations without complaint. The next time you meet Bill Carlton congratulate him and give thanks for the road he traveled that made your path easier.

**********************************************************************************************************************

For those of you who know Randy Novotny, it is our sad task to let you know that Randy passed away in the Temple hospital this past week. Randy had been staying at the office to answer the phone while your chair is on the road. Dee was with Randy at the hospital when his time ran out.

Speaking of Dee she has turned old this week but you would never know it from her looks and energy. We won't tell you how old she is but we will just note here that being 50 is not the end of the world.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LADY.

**********************************************************************************************************************

At the close of the NCOM Convention we discussed with Richard Lester the possibly of getting an 800 number put on our phone line. When Warriors could place a free call we received more communication from you. We will discuss this at the Advisor meeting on Saturday. We could also possibly put call forwarding on the line to send it to the cell phone until such time as we can have someone take on the office duties.

We may possibly change our the state E-address if we get it lined out. Hope to make that announcement at the state meeting also.

*********************************************************************************************************************

We are somewhat pressed for time at the moment but just want to make these observations concerning the State Meeting this weekend:

We shall discuss starting a new feature in the Warrior. The membership would have a month to send in questions concerning the Association's stand on particular issues. The issue receiving the most communication would be placed in the next Warrior and the next meeting would set aside time to discuss the issue. Another setup could be for Warriors to send in questions concerning the chairman's or the Association's position on a particular issue, to the state office. The question and Update answer could be placed in the next Warrior.

Think about this and it will be brought up at the General meeting this weekend.

Make the meeting this weekend if at all possible, bring your current card and let's dance.

Louisiana Helmet Law

The Louisiana helmet Bill was killed by the Senate Saturday (05/08/2004). Louisiana still rides free.

Committee passes motorcycle helmet law
posted: 05-04-2004

Motorcycle helmets could again become required in Louisiana.

The House Transportation Committee voted 10-3 on Monday for a bill
requiring all motorcycle riders to wear safety helmets, sending the
issue to the full House for more debate.

Louisiana had such a law until August 1999, when a law pushed through the Legislature by then-Gov. Mike Foster, an avid motorcyclist, took effect. The law allowed anyone over 18 to ride without a helmet if they had at least $10,000 of bodily injury insurance.

Jim Champagne, head of the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, said that law was a big mistake, leading to an increase in the average number of cyclist deaths per year from 30 before the repeal to 69 after. For 2003, the number reached 79.

As happens whenever the issue is debated, each side was armed with
statistics. Opponents of the bill by Rep. Clara Baudoin of Carencro
argued there are more motorcycles on the road and that there have been more crashes.

Republican Convention

Time to get of your butts Republican Bikers. I spoke to Sputnik on the phone about the Republican Convention and camping. It seems as though I am the only one who has contacted him on this matter. I will have an extra delegate packet for him at the NCOM Convention, so he will have a schedule of events.
If you want a discount campsite, you had better get hold of Sput in a timely manner. I told him of about 8 from my area that I know going for sure. If we are going to make arangements for a campsite, we need some numbers for planning and to make it worth wild to set it up. Last convention our fellow Democrats in the DFW area took care of things and did a GREAT JOB. We will not be so fortunate in San Antonio. We do not have a chapter there. Sput will help us, but he needs feedback NOW! DON'T WAIT! Call him (512-971-6777) or call me (432-213-4421). Dont' make me call you, I was there at the last convention I know who you are!
This will only be my second convention, I need some of you more experienced guys to help us organize a "Biker Caucus". The Democrat Convention has one every time, with the record number of bikers voting Republican, we need to start "Biker Caucus" at our convention. We can only accomplish our goal together, but the time is now! Republican Bikers we need your communication.

Bits from around the country:

Free Prosser

April 26, 2004

By Ken Schram
SEATTLE - Art students at Prosser High School were told to keep a notebook of drawings depicting the war in Iraq.
One 15-year-old turned in a sketch showing President Bush, dressed as a devil, launching a missile.
Another of his drawings was of a Middle Eastern-looking guy holding a rifle in one hand, while in the other hand was a pole with an oversized head of President Bush stuck on it.
The art teacher found the drawings troubling.
Maybe it was the caption that said: "End the War."
Anyway, the drawings were turned over to school administrators.
School administrators took a look and tossed this political hot potato to police, who took one look at the "Vote For Ralph Nader" slogan and called in the Secret Service.
Last week, Secret Service agents trekked out to Prosser and grilled the 15-year-old artist.
They left without charging him with anything, but that didn't stop the school district from punishing the kid anyway.
So, here's my question: When U.S. forces get finished bringing freedom to the people of Iraq, would it be possible for them to do the same thing for the people of Prosser?
******************************************************************************************************************************

Washington, DC, Apr. 27 (UPI) -- Lawmakers in California are considering a proposal to make it illegal to light up in a private car if children are present. The legislation, which is being proposed by Assemblyman Marco Firebaugh, D-Los Angeles, would make California the first state in the nation to permit police to cite motorists for smoking a pipe, cigar or cigarette in a car with children under 19 present.

Supporters of Firebaugh's bill, the Sacramento Bee reported Tuesday, say it is a crucial step forward in the campaign to protect children from the allegedly damaging effects of second-hand smoke. "It just seemed to me that it was one effective, intelligent way to reduce the risk to kids," said Firebaugh, who argues that asthma is common among children in his home district in southeast Los Angeles. **********************************************************************************************************************
South Carolina's Primary Enforcement Seat Belt Bill has been killed! ALL the legislative warriors of ABATE who lobbied the state senate in person and wrote letters deserve credit and thanks for making this happen; your efforts paid off and proved WE can make a difference in this quest for liberty.
Please take a moment to send letters of thanks to the senators who supported our quest for liberty.

CANDID CAMERA

One of those Big Brother traffic cameras in Washington, DC, snapped a picture of my wife's car allegedly speeding. Problem is...she definitely wasn't driving the vehicle on the alleged infraction date. In which case, the citation notice says she'll be let her off the hook...provided she snitches on whoever WAS behind the wheel on the date and time in question. She's required to either pay the fine for an infraction she didn’t commit...or provide a notarized statement ratting out the name and address of the actual driver.

But let's say, hypothetically speaking of course, that the driver was, say, her husband. By law, is she compelled to rat him out and testify against him? Folks, this is one of those issues which you might not be paying any attention to right now because it doesn't affect you...yet. But as local governments continue to spend like drunken sailors while the taxpayers continue to adamantly oppose tax hikes, more and more of YOUR towns and communities are going to be sucked into these traffic cameras. Not because they make your roads safer, but because they generate a boatload of cash for the government without incurring the wrath of anti-tax voters.
These DC cameras are raising MILLIONS for this mismanaged city. In fact, the Washington Times today reports that just ONE camera on New York Avenue in the District issued 13,200 citations last month alone...worth a minimum of $396,000 worth of fines. And you think your local politicians will be able to resist THAT kind of pot of gold?
So beware: The Photo-Fuzz is coming for you soon.

The Biker's hero US Senator Ben "Nighthorse" Campbell introduced SR 168 to have May designated as NATIONAL MOTORCYCLE SAFETY AND AWARENESS MONTH. The Resolution passed the senate unanimously and awaits the President's signature. Once it is signed we will get a copy of it.

In Missouri the House has passed a Bill to allow those riders 21 years of age or older to choose whether to wear a helmet. This has been a long time coming but it still needs to be voted out of the Senate to become law. Congratulations FORR members and good luck with your Senate.

MANALAPAN, Fla. (AP) One of the nation's wealthiest towns will soon have cameras and computers running background checks on every car and driver that passes through. Police Chief Clay Walker said cameras will take infrared photos recording a car's tag number, then software will automatically run the numbers through law enforcement databases. A 911 dispatcher is alerted if the car is stolen or is the subject of a "be on the lookout" warning.
Next to the tag number, police will have a picture of the driver, taken with another set of cameras upgraded versions of the standard surveillance cameras already in place. If there is a robbery, police will be able to comb records to determine who drove through town on a given afternoon or evening.
"Courts have ruled that in a public area, you have no expectation of privacy," said Walker, one of 11 sworn officers who protects Manalapan's 321 residents. Still, Walker says Manalapan's data will be destroyed every three months.
Manalapan's town council authorized $60,000 in security upgrades last week after three burglaries this winter robbed residents of $400,000 in jewelry. The town averages two or three burglaries per year and residents demanded swift response, Town Manager Gregory Dunham said.
The 2000 Census listed Manalapan, about 15 miles south of West Palm Beach, among the nation's richest cities, with two out of every three homes worth more than $500,000.

We were asked to attend the MRF Beast Of The East in Canindiagua New York this weekend and do a workshop. It was hosted by the Ontario Chapter of New York ABATE. The facilities were sensational and the Bros and Sisters of NY were outstanding hosts. Karen Bolin, President MRF, let everyone know there would not be any of the past happenings take place during her watch. We shall attend the MRF Meeting of The Minds in September and I shall become a Sustaining Member. We joined the host, Ontario Chapter, and are now ABATE Members of New York. I could see only two things that could have been better. There was a big lake out behind the Inn with a large open Patio, tables, chairs and umbrellas. The problem, they wouldn't even allow smoking outside on the patio.

The AMA did a workshop on Motorcyclists Matter. They named the states whose governors had issued Proclamations this year, those who had motorcycle information in their drivers manuals and those who had gotten media coverage for Safety and Awareness. They also named those states that had put up signs or Billboards for motorcycle awareness. TEXAS was not mentioned. When I tried to explain about B.A.N.D. and how we did it by cities with media coverage his response was I guess you could do that. He didn't even ask to explain it to others in the class. He wanted them to do everything by AMA's guideline. Shows how petty they are.

The Sons of Liberty Riders had a good turnout for the event and were highly praised for their actions in the brutal war for Liberty. Those guys are a very special addition to the information flow necessary to keep riders enjoined in the political battles across the nation.
All in all it was a huge success and we have received many congratulatory Emails from those who were present.

And last but not least. The District Director for KMA/KBA Louisville District, David Newman, sent word that he had gotten reignited when we were last in Kentucky. He sent a copy of one of his Campaign Flyers for us to see.

5th Step of the Five Steps to Freedom
David Newman
For State Representative
"A Newman for New Leadership"
There was a very nice letter along with his campaign material thanking us for the part we played in convincing him to toss his hat in. Congratulations and good luck Bro.

Meanwhile in Texas:

No reason to spend time with the School Finance Bill as it changes every hour. Two things are attention getters if anything comes of them. The godfather of giving the shaft, Representative Gruesendorf, has said that his priority is not to give money to education but just to cut property taxes. Senator Jane Nelson has said if the slot machines are included in the Bill she will have a physician give her a colostomy so she can filibuster the Bill.
Now remember the Governor hated gambling and forced the Indians to close down their casinos. Now he wants them put back and give the state 60% of the profit. Was he opposed to gambling or just opposed to not getting most of the money? One has to ask if Senator Nelson will lose her select committee seats if she should kill the gambling.

The Blonde Bomber has given the exact fees for attending the Republican Convention in San Antonio. The facility fees charged by the Republican Party during their convention will be $35 for Delegates and Alternates and $25 for registered guests. Hopefully someone in the Party will get some other concrete facts for this convention.

The Group who came together to establish B.A.N.D. have done a great job of helping others to make some fine improvements in Proclamations for Motorcycle Awareness. Rather than just have the governor (who doesn't give a crap about bikers) sign something we have not seen prior to the signing, with no media coverage we are receiving Proclamations written by us and are seen on the media as the Proclamations are read by the cities mayors.
While John and Tonya were working to get the Proclamation from the Austin mayor they also scheduled a meeting for me to speak to the council on May 17th about placing the signs inside Austin city limits. The Proclamation will be awarded at the Mayor's office on May 7th at 3:00pm. The Mayor plans to ride his motorcycle to the office for a media picture. Ride yours up and join him.

Sorry but I am not certain of the B.A.N.D. site but contact Sudsnbuttrfly@aol.com or tiggirl@swbell.net to learn where to find it. You will be proud for what others have done and are doing to make this a great year for Motorcycle Safety and Awareness.
