Bits from around the country:
Free Prosser
April 26, 2004
By Ken Schram
SEATTLE - Art students at Prosser High School were told to keep a notebook of drawings depicting the war in Iraq.
One 15-year-old turned in a sketch showing President Bush, dressed as a devil, launching a missile.
Another of his drawings was of a Middle Eastern-looking guy holding a rifle in one hand, while in the other hand was a pole with an oversized head of President Bush stuck on it.
The art teacher found the drawings troubling.
Maybe it was the caption that said: "End the War."
Anyway, the drawings were turned over to school administrators.
School administrators took a look and tossed this political hot potato to police, who took one look at the "Vote For Ralph Nader" slogan and called in the Secret Service.
Last week, Secret Service agents trekked out to Prosser and grilled the 15-year-old artist.
They left without charging him with anything, but that didn't stop the school district from punishing the kid anyway.
So, here's my question: When U.S. forces get finished bringing freedom to the people of Iraq, would it be possible for them to do the same thing for the people of Prosser?

Washington, DC, Apr. 27 (UPI) -- Lawmakers in California are considering a proposal to make it illegal to light up in a private car if children are present. The legislation, which is being proposed by Assemblyman Marco Firebaugh, D-Los Angeles, would make California the first state in the nation to permit police to cite motorists for smoking a pipe, cigar or cigarette in a car with children under 19 present.
Supporters of Firebaugh's bill, the Sacramento Bee reported Tuesday, say it is a crucial step forward in the campaign to protect children from the allegedly damaging effects of second-hand smoke. "It just seemed to me that it was one effective, intelligent way to reduce the risk to kids," said Firebaugh, who argues that asthma is common among children in his home district in southeast Los Angeles. **********************************************************************************************************************
South Carolina's Primary Enforcement Seat Belt Bill has been killed! ALL the legislative warriors of ABATE who lobbied the state senate in person and wrote letters deserve credit and thanks for making this happen; your efforts paid off and proved WE can make a difference in this quest for liberty.
Please take a moment to send letters of thanks to the senators who supported our quest for liberty.

CANDID CAMERA
One of those Big Brother traffic cameras in Washington, DC, snapped a picture of my wife's car allegedly speeding. Problem is...she definitely wasn't driving the vehicle on the alleged infraction date. In which case, the citation notice says she'll be let her off the hook...provided she snitches on whoever WAS behind the wheel on the date and time in question. She's required to either pay the fine for an infraction she didn’t commit...or provide a notarized statement ratting out the name and address of the actual driver.
But let's say, hypothetically speaking of course, that the driver was, say, her husband. By law, is she compelled to rat him out and testify against him? Folks, this is one of those issues which you might not be paying any attention to right now because it doesn't affect you...yet. But as local governments continue to spend like drunken sailors while the taxpayers continue to adamantly oppose tax hikes, more and more of YOUR towns and communities are going to be sucked into these traffic cameras. Not because they make your roads safer, but because they generate a boatload of cash for the government without incurring the wrath of anti-tax voters.
These DC cameras are raising MILLIONS for this mismanaged city. In fact, the Washington Times today reports that just ONE camera on New York Avenue in the District issued 13,200 citations last month alone...worth a minimum of $396,000 worth of fines. And you think your local politicians will be able to resist THAT kind of pot of gold?
So beware: The Photo-Fuzz is coming for you soon.

The Biker's hero US Senator Ben "Nighthorse" Campbell introduced SR 168 to have May designated as NATIONAL MOTORCYCLE SAFETY AND AWARENESS MONTH. The Resolution passed the senate unanimously and awaits the President's signature. Once it is signed we will get a copy of it.

In Missouri the House has passed a Bill to allow those riders 21 years of age or older to choose whether to wear a helmet. This has been a long time coming but it still needs to be voted out of the Senate to become law. Congratulations FORR members and good luck with your Senate.

MANALAPAN, Fla. (AP) One of the nation's wealthiest towns will soon have cameras and computers running background checks on every car and driver that passes through. Police Chief Clay Walker said cameras will take infrared photos recording a car's tag number, then software will automatically run the numbers through law enforcement databases. A 911 dispatcher is alerted if the car is stolen or is the subject of a "be on the lookout" warning.
Next to the tag number, police will have a picture of the driver, taken with another set of cameras upgraded versions of the standard surveillance cameras already in place. If there is a robbery, police will be able to comb records to determine who drove through town on a given afternoon or evening.
"Courts have ruled that in a public area, you have no expectation of privacy," said Walker, one of 11 sworn officers who protects Manalapan's 321 residents. Still, Walker says Manalapan's data will be destroyed every three months.
Manalapan's town council authorized $60,000 in security upgrades last week after three burglaries this winter robbed residents of $400,000 in jewelry. The town averages two or three burglaries per year and residents demanded swift response, Town Manager Gregory Dunham said.
The 2000 Census listed Manalapan, about 15 miles south of West Palm Beach, among the nation's richest cities, with two out of every three homes worth more than $500,000.

We were asked to attend the MRF Beast Of The East in Canindiagua New York this weekend and do a workshop. It was hosted by the Ontario Chapter of New York ABATE. The facilities were sensational and the Bros and Sisters of NY were outstanding hosts. Karen Bolin, President MRF, let everyone know there would not be any of the past happenings take place during her watch. We shall attend the MRF Meeting of The Minds in September and I shall become a Sustaining Member. We joined the host, Ontario Chapter, and are now ABATE Members of New York. I could see only two things that could have been better. There was a big lake out behind the Inn with a large open Patio, tables, chairs and umbrellas. The problem, they wouldn't even allow smoking outside on the patio.
The AMA did a workshop on Motorcyclists Matter. They named the states whose governors had issued Proclamations this year, those who had motorcycle information in their drivers manuals and those who had gotten media coverage for Safety and Awareness. They also named those states that had put up signs or Billboards for motorcycle awareness. TEXAS was not mentioned. When I tried to explain about B.A.N.D. and how we did it by cities with media coverage his response was I guess you could do that. He didn't even ask to explain it to others in the class. He wanted them to do everything by AMA's guideline. Shows how petty they are.
The Sons of Liberty Riders had a good turnout for the event and were highly praised for their actions in the brutal war for Liberty. Those guys are a very special addition to the information flow necessary to keep riders enjoined in the political battles across the nation.
All in all it was a huge success and we have received many congratulatory Emails from those who were present.

And last but not least. The District Director for KMA/KBA Louisville District, David Newman, sent word that he had gotten reignited when we were last in Kentucky. He sent a copy of one of his Campaign Flyers for us to see.
5th Step of the Five Steps to Freedom
David Newman
For State Representative
"A Newman for New Leadership"
There was a very nice letter along with his campaign material thanking us for the part we played in convincing him to toss his hat in. Congratulations and good luck Bro.

Meanwhile in Texas:
No reason to spend time with the School Finance Bill as it changes every hour. Two things are attention getters if anything comes of them. The godfather of giving the shaft, Representative Gruesendorf, has said that his priority is not to give money to education but just to cut property taxes. Senator Jane Nelson has said if the slot machines are included in the Bill she will have a physician give her a colostomy so she can filibuster the Bill.
Now remember the Governor hated gambling and forced the Indians to close down their casinos. Now he wants them put back and give the state 60% of the profit. Was he opposed to gambling or just opposed to not getting most of the money? One has to ask if Senator Nelson will lose her select committee seats if she should kill the gambling.

The Blonde Bomber has given the exact fees for attending the Republican Convention in San Antonio. The facility fees charged by the Republican Party during their convention will be $35 for Delegates and Alternates and $25 for registered guests. Hopefully someone in the Party will get some other concrete facts for this convention.

The Group who came together to establish B.A.N.D. have done a great job of helping others to make some fine improvements in Proclamations for Motorcycle Awareness. Rather than just have the governor (who doesn't give a crap about bikers) sign something we have not seen prior to the signing, with no media coverage we are receiving Proclamations written by us and are seen on the media as the Proclamations are read by the cities mayors.
While John and Tonya were working to get the Proclamation from the Austin mayor they also scheduled a meeting for me to speak to the council on May 17th about placing the signs inside Austin city limits. The Proclamation will be awarded at the Mayor's office on May 7th at 3:00pm. The Mayor plans to ride his motorcycle to the office for a media picture. Ride yours up and join him.
Sorry but I am not certain of the B.A.N.D. site but contact Sudsnbuttrfly@aol.com or tiggirl@swbell.net to learn where to find it. You will be proud for what others have done and are doing to make this a great year for Motorcycle Safety and Awareness.
