Sputnik's Update

We have lists from Districts 3 - 31 and 22 is almost finalized. Are any other districts planning to take part in this venture. Two members on the Advisory Committee and 2 SDEC members along with Janet leading the way as a Harris county Democrat Exec, Committeee member as well as on the county Credentials Committee will push us much farther ahead. If we haven't heard anything from other districts by the time I return from New York Sunday then I will hit the road to the other districts and find 10 members in each district willing to take part.

You have heard that the reason for high gasoline prices is a shortage of oil products. Some say this is a plot by the White House to artificially raise gasoline prices until just before the November Presidential election and then OPEC will release more oil to help GW Bush win. Check it out. According to the GAO report today oil companies profits have risen by 926% so far this year.

Could this possibly be a big part of the problem

It has been verified by a Republican Delegate that the cost per person, other than Delegates, this year will be a mandatory cost. Visitor Passes will cost $30 each. That is the only information we have gotten for the Republican Convention other than date and time. We are still hoping someone comes up with something soon.

As for the Democrat Convention we are moving forward with plans. We have almost finalized plans for camping in SeaBrook that weekend. Also working on possible police escort for Saturday Morning. Thanks to Janet, "The Dingy Blonde" of 1st Houston Chapter for all her hard work and perseverence in this matter. Of course Janet has never been one to lay back and let someone else have to do it all. I will be working on parking next weekend.

Received a report about 8 State Troopers with nothing better to do than harrass bikers at the Dawgs on Hawgs Rally. They lined up at the park and stopped all riders not wearing a helmet and issued them tickets for other infractions. One man supposedly was stopped and given a ticket for no license and no proof of insurance. He explained the things were in his bedroll and offered to unpack and show them to the officer. They told him no just go to court and show them to the judge. As soon as we get a copy of that particular ticket and his proof we will be raising hell in Austin.

We got all this crap lined our with Major Sherman and Major Clark followed the same track. Now we have another Major in his place and it appears he may need to have it explained to him how working together would be to the benefit of DPS, a lesson that could not be explained by anyone better than yours truly. We have had plenty of practice over the past few years. Hopefully that meeting can take place tomorrow.

Thanks to all the riders who have taken part in getting Proclamations from their cities along with great media coverage. In case you are about to take part in one of these ceremonies here is what I said to the TV cameras in ABILENE.

I know you consider these riders deaths being killed by failurue to yeild as accidents. NO such thing! We consider these violations as nothing less than intended murder. You intentionally get in your vehicle and start it. You intentionally choose the road you will travel and in what direction you will go. You intentionally run that stop sign or red signal light and you intentionally make that left han turn. Since everything leading up to the death was intentional then it be be copncluded that the finallity of your intentions have led to intentional murder.

We ourselves must not refer to these crashes as anything less than murder whe we speak of this matter.

If I pull my pistol, point it at a car driver and intentionally pull the trigger, killing that driver, would I get by with a small fine? Hell no and they shouldn't either. Please for all our sakes do not refer to these infringements on our space as accidents.

Received a call from a Kentucky Bro while attending the SDEC Meeting Saturday. He just wanted us to know that he was running for State Rep in his district and has already won his Primary. He will be sending us all the information on how things are going.

He says that our last trip to Kentucky got him fired up to want to really get involved in the process so he decided why not take "Step Five" now? He has asked that we attend his inauguration after he wins. Again, three cheers for our sister state and KMA/KBA.

Have I done that which I can do to the best of my ability?

HELL NO !! - but I'm trying.
