Tuesday, September 13th, 2011

This is a call to action regarding the stabbing during the ROT Rally of some of our Defender Supporters down on 6th street in Austin. The stabbing was perpetrated by several off duty Law Enforcement Officers that are members of some obscure LEMC in San Antonio. The Austin Special Investigations unit has completed their investigation and forwarded all their information to the Travis County District Attorney’s Office. I am providing an imbedded Sample letter for you to cut and paste as required. This will be a three pronged attack. We need all US Defenders to call, fax, or send e-mail to the Travis county District Attorney’s Office expressing that we want the District Attorney’s Office to convene a Grand Jury in this case and let equal, uniform, and consistent application of the law take place in this particular case. After contacting the Travis County District Attorney’s office by phone, fax, or e-mail we would like each Defender to mail a hard copy letter to the District Attorney’s Office. Re: Stabbing on 6th Street, June 13th, 2011 during the ROT Rally

I am writing this letter to you to express my concern regarding the stabbing and shooting incident that took place in your jurisdiction during the ROT Rally this past June. As a concerned citizen and motorcycle enthusiast I’m finding it difficult to understand how somebody can unlawfully discharge a firearm inside an establishment where they are expressly prohibited and as of yet there are no charges filed against the individual involved. To make matters worse it Is my understanding that this particular individual then proceeded to stab an individual when the melee moved outside the establishment inflicting some very serious injuries to the victim and yet no charges have been filed. I also realize that investigations of this magnitude take some time to complete. It is also my understanding that the Austin Police Department Special Investigations Unit has completed their investigation as of this writing and have forwarded the results of that investigation to your office. I must say as an upstanding citizen and taxpayer it would be a Travesty for the perpetrators in this case to be given preferential treatment due to their close association with the Law Enforcement community. My understanding of the Justice system tells me there should be equal justice and uniform enforcement of the law in all cases regardless of your particular views regarding the perpetrators and/or victims in this matter, particularly in light of recent events involving the Law Enforcement community in the Travis County area. I am asking, details that I may be unaware of not withstanding in this particular case, that this case be brought before the Grand Jury and let the good citizens of Travis County determine the outcome and the way forward from our present position. Surely your Department and the citizens of Travis County deserve no less.

In this case it appears that laws have been violated and both the victims and perpetrators deserve their day in court so a jury can decide the outcome regarding this incident. As a concerned citizen I am demanding that justice be served so that your Department can put this issue to rest.

Please cut and paste the above into an e-mail and type in your name at the bottom of the letter. For the unit Commanders outside of the Austin region I would appreciate it if you would Draft a letter of opinion regarding this matter. The focus of the letter of opinion should be that the motorcycle riding community outside of the Austin area spends a significant amount of time and money visiting the Austin area and supporting the local businesses in the area. Due to the above situation we don’t know if it is prudent to spend our time and vacation dollars in Austin as there is some appearance that safety may be an issue with folks visiting from out of town
