County & District Conventions Begin This Saturday!

April 12th, 2012

Starting this Saturday, April 14th, Texas Republicans will begin assembling in various counties across the state to conduct County & District Republican Conventions. The process will also continue next Saturday, April 21st, for counties which have chosen to hold their conventions on that date.

The Republican Party of Texas has created a website with a full list of county-by-county information, where you can go to learn the date, time and location of your local Republican convention, as well as finding the answers to Frequently Asked Questions and other information about the GOP Convention Process in 2012.

Due to the redistricting lawsuit and rescheduled Texas Primary Election, the RPT has built this website as a way for Republicans to quickly gain information on how to activate and participate within the party’s convention process and the ways in which the process has changed to handle this year’s unique challenges and calendar. The website contains helpful links such as:

http://convention.texasgop.org/counties – a database to find county specific information on your local convention.
http://convention.texasgop.org/new-for-2012 – a thorough explanation on the changes to this year’s convention process.
http://convention.texasgop.org/faq – for those who are new to our conventions.
http://convention.texasgop.org/downloads – a helpful page with links to RPT rules, platform, forms and infographics.

The Republican Party of Texas and the Tarrant County GOP want to make sure that all Tarrant County Republicans have an opportunity to participate in this year’s precinct conventions. By unanimous vote of the Tarrant GOP Executive Committee, precinct conventions in Tarrant County have been scheduled for Tuesday, April 3rd at 7:00pm at various locations throughout the county.

Unlike in other years, when your precinct convention would be held the night of the Primary Election at your precinct’s polling location – this year, due to federal court action, the precinct convention will be on April 3rd, separate and apart from the Texas Primary on May 29th. Additionally, individual precinct conventions will not be held at the polling location, but rather, precinct caucuses will be combined and held at one of 35 locations across Tarrant County. In order to determine where your precinct convention is being held, please go to the TCGOP website for a full listing.

Precinct Conventions are the first and most fundamental step in the party convention process and Tarrant County is comprised of 650 voting precincts. The committee has determined 32 “hub” locations around the county which will be used to conduct precinct conventions this cycle. These “hub” locations will be used to conduct anywhere from 15 to 20 precinct conventions each. These conventions are for you to submit resolutions for consideration in changing the Party Platform and to pick delegates/alternates for one of the four Senatorial District Conventions in Tarrant County. The Senatorial District Conventions will take place on Saturday, April 21, 2012 which is where delegates and alternates for the State Convention on June 7-9, 2012, will be chosen.

To participate in your precinct convention you must be a registered voter (30 days prior to the date of the convention) and swear an Oath of Affiliation to the Republican Party. Voters who were registered last year and have not yet received their new voter registration card are still registered and will be able to attend as a delegate after taking the Oath of Affiliation. In order to be a delegate to one of the Senatorial District Conventions you must either; attend your precinct convention and be elected as a delegate, or have an attending delegate put forth your name and be elected.

If you have any questions, please contact the Tarrant County GOP Party Headquarters at 817.595.0303. You can also find the Tarrant County GOP on Facebook.

Burnam wants pension perk disclosed

March 8th, 2012

As reported by the Star-Telegram, apparently long time elected officials are taking pensions from the state to boost their income. This was made apparent when Gov Rick Perry had to post those numbers while running for President. It’s one thing to draw a pension from one business while working for another, but when you draw a pension from the same business you are working for, that is quite another.
It seems that our Governor and some other elected officials are double dipping into their pension fund. This is because they are withdrawing a pension as a state employee and then when they leave office they can get another pension as an elected official.
Here is the article from the Star-Telegram.

http://www.star-telegram.com/2012/03/05/3786414/burnam-wants-pension-perk-disclosed.html

I think for most of us, if we could legally get away with it, then why not. But if you are an elected official with a State budget that wound up putting a lot of people out on the street with no job. Could you, as a good christian (as our Governor claims he is), double dip to increase your pay, or would you find ways to save money for your taxpayers?
